Restrained, well-made joinery that belongs in the building it is fitted into, whether that building is Georgian, Victorian or new.
Good joinery rarely announces itself. It fills the space it is given, lines up with what is already in the room, and does the job it was asked to do for decades. We would rather a client noticed that a room felt settled than noticed the cabinetry.
In practice that means resisting detail for its own sake: fewer materials, consistent gaps, honest timber and a finish suited to how the room is actually used.
Nothing is made until the room has been surveyed and the work has been drawn. Levels, plumb, services and access are recorded, elevations and details are agreed, and materials and finishes are signed off against samples.
The result is fewer decisions taken on site under pressure, shorter installation periods and a much smaller chance of an unwelcome surprise.
We specify solid timber, veneers, hand-sprayed and hand-painted finishes and hardware rated for daily use. Where a finish will need refreshing in years to come, we detail the joinery so it can be repainted or re-oiled rather than replaced.
In period buildings that principle extends to repair: keeping original fabric wherever it is sound, and matching what survives when new material is needed.
We do not present ourselves as a one-stop contractor. Focusing on joinery and cabinetmaking is what allows the standard to stay where it is, and we will say when a project needs someone else.
