Heritage sash windows
Repair, refurbishment and like-for-like replacement of traditional box sash windows, with correct sections, glazing bars and discreet draught sealing.
A sash window is a mechanism as much as a frame. Boxes, pulleys, cords, weights, parting beads and staff beads all have to work together, and most windows that stick or rattle need the sashes eased, re-corded and rebalanced rather than replaced.
Where timber has failed we splice in new material to the same species and section, keeping as much original fabric as possible. Where a window is beyond repair, or has already been replaced with an unsympathetic unit, we make a new sash window to the original profile, with the same glazing bar width, horn detail and sight lines.
Draught sealing is fitted into rebates so it is invisible when the window is closed, which usually removes the rattle and much of the heat loss without altering the appearance. Slim double glazing can be considered where consent allows, and single glazing retained where it does not.
