Specialist collection
Turned and carved objects in solid timber. Small, quiet pieces made in the workshop between commissions, each one worked from a single board or billet.
The specialist collection began as a way of using the best of the timber that passes through the workshop. Offcuts of walnut, oak and ash with figure worth keeping are set aside, dried properly and then turned or carved as individual objects rather than as a production run.
Every piece is made by hand, so grain, figure and colour differ from one to the next. Surfaces are finished with oil and wax rather than lacquer, so the timber continues to move and darken as it would in a piece of furniture.
Pieces are made to commission and can be scaled or specified in a particular timber to sit with an interior scheme, including alongside joinery we are already making for the same room.
The pieces
- 01
Walnut Vessel
Turned English walnut, oil and wax finish
A deep turned vessel in English walnut, worked to a thin wall so the figure reads through the form. Turned from a single billet, so the grain runs continuously around the body and no two are alike.
- 02
Oak Centrepiece
Turned and hand-worked oak, low open form
A low, wide open form in oak, intended for a dining or console top. The rim is hand-worked rather than turned true, leaving a soft irregular edge against the medullary figure of quarter-sawn oak.
- 03
Sculptural Bowl
Carved solid timber, asymmetric form
A carved bowl worked away from the lathe, its wall thickness and rim line following the board rather than a circle. Made in oak, walnut or ash depending on the board available.
- 04
Totem Vessel
Stacked turned sections, tall standing form
A tall standing vessel built from stacked turned sections, each with a slightly different diameter so the profile steps as it rises. Suited to a hall table, plinth or shelf run where height is needed.
- 05
Eclipse Vessel
Turned form with offset opening
A closed turned form with an offset circular opening, so the piece reads as solid from one side and hollow from the other. Finished inside and out, and often specified as a pair.
Every piece is made to commission, so timber, finish and dimensions are agreed before work begins.
Commission a piece
Tell us the room, the timber you have in mind and any joinery it needs to sit with, and we will come back with a proposal.
