Heritage wall panelling and staircases
Raised and fielded panelling, dado and full-height schemes, and staircase joinery including strings, handrails, newels and balustrades.
Panelling sets the proportions of a room, so the layout matters more than the material. We draw the scheme first, dividing walls so that stiles land sensibly against doors, windows and chimney breasts, then decide between dado height, full height, raised and fielded, flat panel or shadow-gap detailing according to the building's period.
Staircase work ranges from repair to reconstruction: replacing missing balusters and newel caps, splicing worn treads and nosings, curing squeaks and movement, easing and re-fixing handrails, and making new strings, handrails and balustrades where a stair has been altered or lost.
Everything is made in the workshop and finished on site, with panelling scribed to walls and floors that are rarely straight and staircase components fitted to the existing geometry rather than to a standard.
