Period door restoration and fitting
Restoration, easing and hanging of panelled doors, with linings, architraves and traditional ironmongery made and fitted to suit the opening.
Original doors are usually worth keeping. Stripped of later paint build-up, with joints re-wedged, panels freed and stiles repaired, a Georgian or Victorian panelled door will hang and close better than most replacements and keeps the room's proportions intact.
Openings in period buildings are rarely square. We ease and hang each door to its own opening, shooting the leading edge to the correct clearance and making linings, casings and architraves where they are missing or beyond repair.
Where a door has been lost, we make a new one to match its neighbours: the same panel layout, moulding profile, thickness and rail widths. Ironmongery is specified to suit the period, from rim locks and knobs to butt hinges in matching finishes, with fire-rated upgrades where a flat or house of multiple occupation requires them.
